Greek Italic black glaze pottery kalathos

A rare black glaze pottery kalathos vessel with everted sides and a flat base. The kalathos was inspired by the shape of ancient baskets; pottery examples, particularly from Cyprus, are sometimes found with painted or cut-out decoration representing the basket-work.

Surface chipping and wear as seen in the photographs, the pottery was mis-fired in antiquity causing a grey colour
